Nowadays, tablets come in all shapes and sizes. Some tablets are disguised as smart phones, while others prove to be perfect in size and shape. Over the course of CES Sony announced their Xperia Z and ZL smart phones to much fan fare. The two handsets are solid new contenders in the smart phone arena that should help bring Sony back into the light. Fast forward a week or so later and Sony has decided to announce their new Xperia Tablet Z. While the tablet Z was not available for comment at CES, Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo let the beans spill that they would be showing off the Tablet Z in the coming weeks.

Today, Sony has announced the Xperia Tablet Z making the new slate official. But what should we expect from an Xperia Tablet Z? The new Tablet Z starts with a 10.1 inch 1920×1200 touch screen that comes packing Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2. The new tablet runs with the latest in Android 4.1 and falls in line with the designs of the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL smart phone counter parts. Internally the new Tablet Z just gets better. It comes with a more than capable Qualcomm 1.5 GHz APQ8064 chipset that will hum alongside 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The Xperia Tablet Z will also come packing an 8.1 mega pixel camera, no mention on a front facing shooter however. Additional details give this Xperia Tablet Z some pretty cool features. First, just like the Z and ZL smart phones, the Tablet Z is waterproof as well as dustproof. Interested parties can also expect expandable microSDHC memory options, 4G LTE connectivity, as well as NFC. One of the best parts of the new Xperia Tablet Z is its size. The device measures in at a mere 6.9 mm thin and weighs only 495 grams, which makes it the thinnest, and lightest 10 inch tablet available today. Unfortunately however, pricing and availability have been left out of the official announcement, so only time will tell.
